Edifier NeoDots Review: Why They are My Favorite Earbuds

When it comes to true wireless earbuds or headphones, I’ve always gravitated toward Edifier products. Their sound signature, especially on the Neobuds Pro 2, has been a constant delight for me. I’m a big fan of how Edifier tunes their earbuds and headphones—always warm, rich, and with a quality that punches above their price point. Until recently, the Neobuds Pro 2 were my go-to earbuds for daily use. But then the Edifier NeoDots arrived, and I was pleasantly surprised. These have now become my daily earbuds of choice, and I’m excited to share my experience with you.

Design and Comfort

First impressions matter, and the NeoDots make a great one. Edifier has done a stellar job designing these earbuds to feel premium yet practical. The earbuds themselves have a sleek, modern look with subtle accents that give them a touch of sophistication. The charging case is great too, offering a solid build that doesn’t feel flimsy. Comfort-wise, they’re excellent for extended listening sessions, and the lightweight design means no ear fatigue.

Sound Quality

If you’ve used Edifier products before, you know their hallmark is sound quality, and the NeoDots don’t disappoint. These earbuds feature a hybrid driver setup, combining dynamic and balanced armature drivers. This combination delivers a sound experience that’s both powerful and nuanced.

The first thing I noticed was the warm, inviting sound signature that Edifier is known for. The bass is punchy without overwhelming the mids, which remain clear and articulate. The highs are crisp, making the NeoDots versatile for a range of genres—from bass-heavy tracks to acoustic melodies. Whether I was listening to Spotify playlists or watching YouTube videos, the audio performance was consistently impressive.

The Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification and LDAC support take things up a notch, offering better clarity and depth. However, it’s worth noting that LDAC is only available on Android devices. As an iPhone user, I still found the sound quality excellent but wish I could tap into LDAC’s full potential.

Noise Cancellation and Ambient Modes

Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) is a must-have feature for many, and the NeoDots deliver in this department. With a maximum reduction depth of -48dB, these earbuds effectively block out low-frequency noises like humming appliances or distant traffic. While they might not completely silence high-pitched sounds, they’re more than adequate for creating a focused listening environment.

What I particularly appreciate is the flexibility in noise cancellation modes. Depending on where I’m using them, I can tweak the settings to find the perfect balance. The ambient sound mode is another great feature, allowing me to stay aware of my surroundings when needed.

Battery Life and Charging

Battery life is one of the standout features of the NeoDots. On a single charge, they offer up to 17 hours of playback, with the charging case extending that to a whopping 56 hours. This makes them perfect for long trips or days when you’re constantly on the go.

The fast-charging feature is a lifesaver. A quick 15-minute charge provides an extra 5 hours of playtime, which is incredibly convenient when you’re in a hurry. The case also supports both wired and wireless charging, adding another layer of convenience. Personally, I’ve found the wireless charging feature a great addition, as it seamlessly fits into my existing setup at home.

Connectivity and Additional Features

The NeoDots use Bluetooth 5.4, ensuring a stable and reliable connection. I’ve experienced zero dropouts or latency issues during my use, which is always a plus. One of my favorite features is the multipoint connection, which allows me to connect the earbuds to two devices simultaneously. Switching between my MacBook and iPhone has never been smoother.

For gamers, there’s an 80ms low-latency mode, which ensures a lag-free experience during gaming sessions. While I’m not much of a gamer myself, I tested this feature briefly and found it to work as advertised.

The Edifier ConneX app is another highlight. It’s user-friendly and offers customizable EQ settings, which let me fine-tune the sound to my liking. The app also provides control over other features, like noise cancellation modes and firmware updates.

Call Quality

With six microphones and AI algorithms for noise reduction, the NeoDots are designed for crystal-clear calls. I’ve used them for several phone calls, and the results have been impressive. Voices come through clearly, and background noise is kept to a minimum, making them a great choice for work calls or casual chats.

What I Don’t Like

While the NeoDots have impressed me in many ways, there are a few aspects that could be improved. First, the touch controls : The double-tap to skip to the next track works most of the time, but occasionally, it doesn’t respond, leaving me to reach for my phone to change the song.

Another issue is the lack of a dedicated play/pause option in the app’s control settings. With the long list of commands available for double and triple taps, it’s frustrating that such a basic feature is missing. However, there is a way to play/pause—a single tap does the trick. The problem? This isn’t explained anywhere in the app, which feels like a missed opportunity for better user guidance.

Lastly, I wish the volume could go just a bit louder. While the sound quality is excellent, there are moments when I’d like a bit more punch, especially in noisy environments.

Conclusion

Edifier has done it again and produced another outstanding pair of earbuds. The wireless (finally) case has a smooth matte finish that feels great. They fit perfectly in my ears, and the sound quality is just incredible. I’m particularly impressed with the Heavy Bass settings. And yes, they could sound a little louder, and the app could explain a bit more about the single tap for play/pause, but overall, these are truly outstanding earbuds. The sound quality is simply so good that I don’t care about the negatives. Compared to the Neobuds Pro 2, I find the design more modern, and the wireless charging case is a very good extra. Honestly, if you are looking for a present or a new pair of earbuds for yourself, you will not be disappointed with the Edifier NeoDots!
