Edifier D32 Review: Retro Design Meets Modern Sound

Edifier D32 Review. Retro design

Last month, I had the pleasure of reviewing the Edifier MP230, a compact but mighty speaker. Today, I’m excited to introduce you to its bigger sibling—the Edifier D32. Think of the D32 as an MP230 on steroids! But is it the one you should add to your home audio setup? Let’s dive in and find out.

Design:

Once again, Edifier has outdone themselves in the design department. The D32 boasts a stunning retro aesthetic with a sleek MDF top, and I have to say, the brown version fits perfectly with my living room décor. This is a solid, hefty speaker that you can either leave plugged in or move around after charging. From the clicky function buttons to the meticulously crafted speaker grille, every detail feels thoughtfully executed. Honestly, this is one of the best-looking speakers I’ve come across, and Edifier deserves some serious recognition for their design prowess.

Specs:

Now, let’s talk specs, because the D32 is a significant step up from the MP230. This Bluetooth speaker pumps out a total of 60W of power, divided between two 1” silk dome tweeters and one 4” long-throw mid-low driver. It’s also Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Wireless certified, supporting both LDAC (for Android) and ALAC (for Apple) codecs. If you're an Apple user, AirPlay 2 is supported, letting you stream seamlessly across multiple devices. The 2.1 acoustic architecture provides crisp highs, clear mids, and a punchy bass that can fill a room.

One thing I think is important to highlight is how the D32 handles Hi-Res Audio. If you have an Android phone and use a streaming service like Quobuz or Tidal, you can stream Hi-Res audio up to 24bit/96kHz thanks to the LDAC codec, with transmission rates up to 990kbps. This delivers an exceptional listening experience.

For iPhone users, you can still stream high-quality sound through AirPlay 2. However, it’s a bit of a shame that Apple has limited the resolution, so while the sound is still great, you won’t get the same Hi-Res Audio quality that you can achieve on an Android device. Given Apple’s legacy in music with iTunes, Apple Music, and iPods, I really hope they improve AirPlay capabilities in the future.

The Edifier ConneX app lets you control everything from source switching to sound effects customization. And let’s not forget the 11-hour battery life—perfect for a full day of music without needing to recharge.

My Experience with the Edifier D32:

Edifier D32 Design

If you've followed my reviews, you know I’m a huge fan of how Edifier tunes their products, and the D32 doesn’t disappoint. Pairing it with my iPhone was seamless, and using AirPlay 2, I streamed near Hi-Res audio from Quobuz—an absolute pleasure for audiophiles. The sound is loud and crystal clear, with the bass being particularly impressive—deep and punchy without overpowering other frequencies.

Through the Edifier ConneX app, you can fine-tune the audio to your liking. The app offers pre-set equalizers like Classic, Monitor, Dynamic, and Vocal, but the real bonus lies in the custom EQ option. This allows you to tweak the sound profile to suit your personal taste, whether you're into bass-heavy tracks or prefer crisp highs and detailed mids.

One of my favorite features is the piano-style function keys on the speaker itself. They give you the freedom to control playback and volume without constantly reaching for your phone. And while I haven’t connected it to my TV (since my Philips OLED has great sound), AirPlay 2 makes that an option if you’re looking for a better audio experience while watching movies or shows.

I also tried connecting my Audio Technica AT-LP60XUSB turntable using the included AUX cable, and it worked like a dream. The warm, rich sound from my vinyl collection was just as I’d hoped, and the D32 is an ideal solution if you want to enjoy turntable audio without setting up multiple speakers.

Conclusion:

If you’re in the market for a high-quality speaker with a beautiful design and great functionality, the Edifier D32 should be at the top of your list. Whether for your own use or as a Christmas gift, it’s a fantastic piece of tech. Edifier continues to prove that they’re not just about powerful sound—they’ve got style and substance in spades. Versatile, good-looking, and feature-packed—the D32 is a no-brainer!
